Exam Types

Ultrasound exam types we perform on site.

Each exam below has its own page describing what the study covers, which facilities most often order it, and how we perform it at your location. Every examination is performed by a credentialed, RVT-certified technologist using equipment we bring with us.

Venous Duplex Ultrasound for DVT Evaluation

A venous duplex ultrasound for deep vein thrombosis evaluates the deep venous system of the legs or arms using B-mode imaging, compression and colour Doppler to assess whether blood is moving normally through the veins.

About DVT Evaluation

Venous Insufficiency / Reflux Duplex Ultrasound

A venous insufficiency or reflux study maps the superficial and deep venous systems and measures reflux at the saphenous junctions and along the truncal veins, typically with the patient standing or in reverse Trendelenburg.

About Venous Reflux Studies

Lower Extremity Arterial Duplex Ultrasound

A lower extremity arterial duplex study images the arterial system from the aortoiliac segment through the tibial vessels, using colour Doppler and spectral waveform analysis to document flow characteristics at each level.

About PAD & Arterial Studies

Ankle-Brachial Index and Toe-Brachial Index Testing

Ankle-brachial index and toe-brachial index testing are non-invasive physiologic studies that compare blood pressures in the ankles or toes against the arms to assess circulation to the lower limbs.

About ABI & TBI Testing

Abdominal Aortic Ultrasound

An abdominal aortic ultrasound images the abdominal aorta and measures its diameter along its length to evaluate for aneurysmal dilatation or abnormal enlargement.

About AAA Evaluation

Carotid Artery Duplex Ultrasound

A carotid duplex examination images the common, internal and external carotid arteries and the vertebral arteries, combining greyscale imaging with colour Doppler and spectral velocity measurements to document plaque and narrowing.

About Carotid Duplex

Upper Extremity Arterial and Venous Duplex Ultrasound

Upper extremity studies image the arterial or venous system of the arm — subclavian, axillary, brachial, radial and ulnar arteries, or the corresponding deep and superficial veins — with greyscale imaging, compression and Doppler as appropriate.

About Upper Extremity Studies

Dialysis Access Mapping and Maturation Studies

Dialysis access mapping measures arterial and venous diameters and documents patency in the upper extremity before access creation. Maturation studies re-image an existing fistula or graft to document diameter, depth and flow characteristics.

About Dialysis Access Mapping

Echocardiography

Echocardiography uses cardiac ultrasound to image the chambers, valves and walls of the heart and to document structure and function with two-dimensional imaging, colour flow and Doppler.

General Diagnostic Ultrasound Services

Beyond vascular and cardiac work, our technologists perform general ultrasound examinations at your facility, covering the abdominal, renal, pelvic and soft tissue studies most commonly ordered in an outpatient setting.

About General Ultrasound

Procedure Day Ultrasound Assistance

Procedure day assistance places an experienced ultrasound technologist in your treatment room to provide imaging support during vein and vascular procedures — access guidance, vessel marking and intra-procedural imaging as directed by the physician.
