Upper Extremity Arterial and Venous Duplex Ultrasound

Upper Extremity Arterial and Venous Ultrasound

Upper extremity studies image the arterial or venous system of the arm — subclavian, axillary, brachial, radial and ulnar arteries, or the corresponding deep and superficial veins — with greyscale imaging, compression and Doppler as appropriate.

How we perform this study at your facility

Upper extremity venous studies are frequently ordered for arm swelling or after central line placement, and upper extremity arterial studies for asymmetric pressures or hand symptoms. Both are performed at your facility with our equipment.

Upper extremity venous mapping is also part of the workup before dialysis access creation; see our dialysis access mapping page for the full protocol.

All exams are performed by credentialed, RVT-certified technologists.

Interpretation remains with the physician responsible for the patient's care. Our role is to deliver a complete, well-documented examination at your location — it does not replace evaluation by the patient's physician.
