Dialysis Access Mapping and Maturation Studies
Dialysis Access Mapping by Mobile Ultrasound
Dialysis access mapping measures arterial and venous diameters and documents patency in the upper extremity before access creation. Maturation studies re-image an existing fistula or graft to document diameter, depth and flow characteristics.
How we perform this study at your facility
Nephrology offices and access surgeons need mapping done to a specific protocol, with the diameters and depths recorded at the levels the surgeon plans around. We perform the full protocol and document it on a worksheet built for access planning rather than a generic venous form.
Maturation studies follow the same discipline: consistent measurement locations so serial studies are actually comparable to one another.
Our vascular technologists hold RVT certification and trained through the Rush University vascular ultrasound program.
Interpretation remains with the physician responsible for the patient's care. Our role is to deliver a complete, well-documented examination at your location — it does not replace evaluation by the patient's physician.
